Request For Spray Records
The continued successful area-wide suppression of
codling moth requires that growers receive the most
reliable information with which to make informed codling
moth control decisions on their farm.

This information includes codling moth trap counts in
orchards to determine when an action (spray) threshold
is reached, and codling moth development to determine
proper application timing of control products. In
order for the SIR Program to evaluate the effectiveness
and use of the trap count information, Program advisors
need information form growers - their insecticide spray
records.
A letter is being sent in early December 2011 to growers
(via email and/or letter mail) requesting that they
provide their 2011 spray records to the SIR program for
review by Program advisors. If complete spray
records are not available, just the insecticide products applied, dates applied, rates,
target pest, and orchard/block identification
would be most welcome. The information provided
will be held in strictest confidence and no growers or
properties will ever be identified in any reports
generated from the records.
Growers can deliver a copy of their records to any SIR
office in Osoyoos, Penticton, Kelowna, or Vernon
(addresses to left of this page) or SIR staff can visit
their farm to collect the information.
Alternatively the information can be emailed to to the
SIR office (sirinfo@oksir).
In order to ensure enough time to properly analyze the
records and prepare reports for growers by the next
growing season, growers are asked to please provide
records by December 16, 2011.
The information collected from the records will be used
to:
- Improve the effectiveness of recommended action
thresholds (how many codling moths signal the possible
need for a cover spray);
- Help growers maximize the effectiveness of the
control products and avoid gaps in coverage through
proper spray timing; and
- Determine what additional information growers need
to improve codling moth control in their orchards.
The SIR Program thanks growers for considering this
request and looks forward to receiving this valuable
information.
