FortisBC PowerSense Conservation Excellence Award

The SIR Board has earned a FortisBC PowerSense Conservation Excellence Award for the outstanding efforts by staff in implementation of energy-efficient upgrades at the rearing facility in Osoyoos.

By adapting energy management practices to better control mechanical systems and lighting, the organization saved nearly 1,000,000 kW/h, or enough to power close to 80 homes for a year.  The result of these improvements is that the electrical consumption has beenreduced to 1.3 GW/h over the past 12 months, a savings of approximately 1GW/h.  Gas consumption has been cut in half.

This equates to a cost savings of over $60,000/year!
