SIR Funding
The total annual cost of the Program is
slightly more than $3 million. The bulk of funding comes
from general property taxpayers and commercial apple and
pear growers in the Program's
service area.
Growers pay through parcel taxes
levied on a per acre basis. General taxpayers (including
growers) pay taxes toward the Program based on the
assessed value of their land.
In 2008, the parcel tax was set at $133 per acre and
generated a total of $1.29 million for the Program.
Property taxes generated $1.64 million. Traditionally,
senior government provided funding to the SIR
Program; however, 2007 was the final year of this
funding.
The following table shows the approximate tax impact on
a typical residential property for some of the
municipalities within the service area.
