Committees
Standing Committees of the SIR Board
There are currently two standing committees
established by the Board to provide advice on Program
operations and governance.
Operation Advisory Committee (OAC)
The SIR Board established the Operations Advisory Committee (OAC) to replace the SIR Technical Advisory and Grower Industry Advisory Committees. The mandate of the OAC is to provide guidance to Program Administration and the Board of Directors on technical and operational aspects of program services through input by member agencies representing growers, researchers, advisors, and pesticide and food safety regulators. This committee will give industry a more prominent role in the design and delivery of the area wide Program that best suits their varied needs. Through the BCFGA, Regional Grower Advisory Groups /Clusters will be formed to facilitate informal discussion among local growers on the Program services, the results of which will be reported back to the OAC for its information and action.
Members of the OAC consist of appointments from the
following organizations:
-
Regional District representative (SIR Board member)
-
BCFGA (SIR Board member)
-
BC Organic Tree Fruit Association
-
Pacific Agriculture Research Centre
Summerland
-
Okanagan Tree Fruit Company
-
BC Ministry of Agriculture and Lands
Other agencies invited to participate include:
- Integrated Environmental Plant Management Association
- BC Ministry of Environment
- Canadian Food Inspection Agency
- Pest Management Regulatory Agency
The OAC will recommend on delivery of Program
operation including:
- Recommendation on rearing and
releasing the required number of sterile
moths at the times, rates and locations,
- recommend any modifications or
replacement of area-wide treatments
based on review of situations and
research,
- prescribe the need for assessing
fruit damage, and for deployment,
servicing, checking monitoring devices
and recording insect captures,
- on a regular basis, review all
annual operations and research reports,
deliberate on technical and operational
problems, and advise the Program and
Board of Directors on R & D needs to
solve problems and improve program
performance,
- perform a cost analysis for proposed
changes in the operations working
closely with grower reps to review the
operation plan and recommend to the SIR
Board for approval on implementation.
The activities of the OAC will be funded by the
Program as per the current policies.
Chief Administration Officer Committee (CAO)
The CAO Committee is comprised of the Chief
Administration Officers of the four participating
regional districts. The committee provides input
concerning SIR governance and future governance models,
SIR administration and Program budgets.
