2012 Program

There will not be any changes to the type of area-wise mandatory control applied by the SIR Program in 2012.

  • Zone 1 (Similkameen to Summerland) will continue to receive weekly sterile moth release.

  • Zones 2 and 3 (Peachland to Salmon Arm) will again receive mating disruption (Isomate CM/LR TT) as part of an expanded Pilot Project

  • Watch for information to be distributed through Okanagan Tree Fruit Company newsletters, the BCFGA/OTFC Grower Symposium and Production Guide meetings in March 2012, as well as this website. SIR will also mail out the 2011 SIR Year-End Update and neighbourhood maps in March 2012 to every commercial apple and pear grower.

  • Growers in Zones 2 and 3 are encouraged to prune their apple and pear trees by mid-March, at which time SIR staff will begin installing the mating disruption dispensers in all apple and pear blocks.

  • Please remember to keep spray records of nutrient and pesticide sprays applied to all blocks by using the forms published in the Integrated Fruit production Guide.  This guide also contains information on codling moth biology and management that many growers will find useful for making informed control decisions.

  • Tax requisition: It is anticipated that there will not be any increase in tax requisition for the 2012 year.  The SIR Program Financial Plan for 2012 must still be adopted by the SIR Board at the end of February 2012.  It is anticipated that the parcel tax for growers will continue at $139.26 per acre.  Depending on the land value in their jurisdiction, the average urban property pays between $6-$12 per year in land value tax.
